Why have we joined the Balkan Solar Roofs Campaign?

By joining the Balkan Solar Roofs campaign, the municipality of Vrnjačka Banja will ensure the path to cleaner energy sources and thus energy security and independence. In addition, the common vision of all members of this campaign will make the Balkans more competitive through a green transition.

What are our ambitions in terms of energy and climate?

Taking into account the exceptional natural and anthropogenic potentials, good geographical position, strong tourist economy and related activities, rich tourist tradition, the municipality of Vrnjačka Banja wants to be additionally engaged in the field of environmental protection through energy efficiency programs. One of the possibilities is to install solar panels on public buildings, households, rehabilitation centers, hotels and healthcare facilities. In this way, multiple benefits will be achieved: a clean and healthy environment, a reduced amount of CO2, savings for providers of tourist services, savings achieved by citizens in households, etc.

What are our strengths to turn these ambitions into reality?

The municipality of Vrnjačka Banja has a favorable geographical position enriched with natural resources (a high percentage of forests and water). The key advantage of this place is the ecological environment, because it also has medicinal and health-promoting factors that have been recognized and thus built rehabilitation centers that help a large number of citizens of Serbia and from abroad. Precisely because of this, Vrnjačka Banja is one of the most visited places in Serbia with a large tourist offer. A large number of tourists from the country and abroad visit this municipality due to the rehabilitation as well as the cultural content that the municipality offers (events, concerts, festivals). Taking into account all the potentials of this place, Vrnjačka Banja wants to take advantage of the possibility of saving electrical and thermal energy through the implementation of an energy efficiency program that will contribute to environmental protection. In this way, it was also possible to save energy by installing solar panels on large rehabilitation centers and hotels that actively participate in the creation of the tourist offer.
